Seamless Storage in a Queenslander

In a classic Queenslander, where every bit of space matters, thoughtful design is key. This custom-built living room joinery perfectly balances functionality and aesthetic charm, seamlessly integrating storage into the home without overwhelming the space.

Crafted from 2 Pack painted MDF in Dulux Antique White USA (satin finish), the cabinetry exudes warmth and timeless appeal. The doors are routed in our favourite shaker panel profile, featuring a small bevel on the inner frame—a subtle yet practical detail that enhances the classic style while making cleaning effortless. Paired with push-to-open hardware, the joinery achieves a refined, handle-free look that enhances the seamless integration into the home.

To introduce warmth and texture, we incorporated Tasmanian Oak floating shelves, which contrast beautifully with the crisp white cabinetry. These shelves are intentionally left open at the back, allowing the VJ walls to shine through—a design choice that keeps the joinery feeling light and airy while visually expanding the space.

With storage being a top priority for the client, we maximised every millimetre while respecting the constraints of the living room’s existing opening. The depth was carefully considered to maintain the room’s flow, and Blum Antaro drawers were selected for their impressive storage capacity within a compact footprint. For the upper cabinetry, we used Blum Aventos lift mechanisms, ensuring effortless access to overhead storage without the need for traditional hinged doors. This not only improves functionality but also maintains the clean, uncluttered aesthetic.

This project is a testament to how well-designed joinery can soften functional storage, making it feel like a natural extension of the home rather than an addition. By blending classic detailing with modern functionality, this living room now offers a timeless, clutter-free space—one that’s as practical as it is beautiful.
